Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a solid waste planning professional to join our Midwest group. This position will offer the right person significant opportunities for leadership and growth in the regional solid waste market. Pending qualifications, the location of this role is flexible; but ideally would be in MN. In this role, the candidate will focus on both technical work and business development. Previous consulting experience is highly preferable.

This position will be involved in managing, performing, and supporting project work; developing business with public and private clients; and managing client relationships (seller / doer role). Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop solid waste and recycling plans and studies, including zero-waste, waste minimization, and diversion planning.

  • Research, analyze, and compile project data.

  • Manage and lead comprehensive waste audits and characterization assessments.

  • Evaluate solid waste and recycling services, operations, facilities, and policies.

  • Assist with public engagement.

  • Prepare and analyze financial projections and forecasts.

  • Manage and lead technical work.

  • Provide QC review for technical work.

  • Draft and review proposals and assist with business planning and strategic growth initiatives to help us expand our list of valued clients and geographic footprint. Play a significant role in new client development.

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to undertake solid waste management and other infrastructure projects related to planning, design, and construction.

  • Liaise with clients and sub-consultants and ensure that the project’s/client’s needs are met in a timely and effective manner.

  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in waste management practices.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability related to preparing scope and fee estimates for project work

  • Demonstrated technical ability related to solid waste planning and report preparation; experience in the solid waste and recycling profession.

  • Experience in sustainability and understanding of sustainability topics, including climate resilience, emerging technologies, GHG protocol, and general corporate sustainability reporting, is preferred.

  • Experience with design and implementation of sustainability programs, is preferred.

  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections, business development activities, etc. Occasional overnight travel may be required.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with attention to detail; time management skills.

  • Excellent client relation skills and be able to coordinate effectively with team members.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.

  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Your Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies or Science, Environmental Policy, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration, Urban Planning, or related field.

Minimum of six (6) years of previous experience in waste management consulting, with a focus on planning projects.

Preferable two (2) years of project management experience coordinating and managing tasks and projects and interacting with clients and stakeholders.

TRUE Advisor certificate holder, or ability to obtain.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
