Intermountain Health Nursing Director of Magnet and Professional Development in Wheat Ridge, Colorado

Job Description:

Intermountain Health is searching for a Nursing Director to lead magnet and professional nursing development initiatives at Lutheran Medical Center, a community-based, 338-bed acute-care hospital and level II trauma center. Serving the people of Colorado for more than 100 years, Lutheran Medical Center has primary care clinics in and around the Wheat Ridge area, along with dozens of progressive specialty services. Along with 2,000+ caregivers, Lutheran’s physicians and advanced care professionals support a multitude of specialties, such as Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Neurology/Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedic Surgery, Psychiatry, and Pulmonology, among other specialties.

The Nursing Director of Professional Practice and Magnet Programs oversees the clinical and professional development of nurses across Lutheran Medical Center. In this key leadership role you will provide oversight of programs and processes which include, nurse onboarding, nurse orientation, the residency program, specialty internships, professional governance, the Magnet journey, and nursing research.

This is an exempt, full-time leadership position. As such, you are eligible to participate in an annual pay-for-performance opportunity (“AP4P”). This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Intermountain Health Board-approved goals.

As the Director of Professional Nursing Practice and Magnet Program, you need to know how to:

  • Facilitate the development and evolution of professional governance, along with providing development to council chairpersons and members.

  • Evolve the model and grow in membership.

  • Oversee the Magnet program for Lutheran Medical Center.

  • Promote standardization and integration of best practices and ensure clinical policies reflect evidence-based practice, appropriate professional standards, and standardization across the hospital.

  • Ensure nurse on-boarding, orientation, and training is standardized, engaging, and promotes retention of quality nurses.

  • Evaluate annual competency requirements.

  • Develop and provide oversight for program, promote nurse growth and retention such as specialty training, nurse residency, clinical ladder, preceptor training, and mentorship.

  • Act as a role model, mentor, and consultant to colleagues, leaders, councils, performance improvement teams, and advance practice nurses for clinical, professional, educational, and research topics.

  • Facilitate change and transformation efforts using change management principles and tools.

  • Ensure nurses are practicing at the top of their license through development opportunities, understanding of state licensing and board of nursing rules, and professional organization standards for nursing roles.

  • Promote clinical development, clinical education programs, and projects in accordance with, but not limited to, Joint Commission standards, Magnet standards, ANA scope and standards of practice, professional standards, and organizational policy.

  • Participate in and involve nurses in evaluative research and ensure application of evidence-based practice.

  • Conduct research as appropriate and publish and facilitate publication of best practices and/or research findings.

  • Serve as a liaison for academic partners.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN), is required.

  • Master’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or business is required. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then either a baccalaureate or a higher degree must be in nursing.

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice or Ph.D is preferred.

  • License to practice nursing in Colorado (or the ability to obtain a Colorado nursing license within six (6) months of hire).

  • ANCC certification in Continuing Nursing Education & Magnet (or the ability to capture certifications with 6 months of hire).

  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice experience and prior leadership experience is required.

  • Prior experience working in a complex, matrixed health system is preferred, along with the development and implementation of clinical and business quality improvement initiatives.

  • Pervious Nursing Service Line experience and knowledge of clinical informatics/IT systems/EPIC is preferred.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$45.32 - $83.10
