Pay Range: $100000 - $120000 / year

Position Summary

The Area HSE Manager is the company’s first line for communications and training relating to our safety programs and for ensuring that the company fully complies with all respective local, state, and federal regulations and our customer’s requirements. The Area HSE Manager actively directs the administration of project safety, accident prevention, and hazard communication programs to maintain safe work environments. The Area HSE Manager also conducts regular worksite surveillance inspections, air samplings tests and comprehensive safety training for employees. This individual document unsafe conditions, safety violations, accidents and near misses. The Area HSE Manager thoroughly investigates all surrounding circumstances through employee interviews, equipment inspections and site inspections carefully reviewing the integrity of personal protective equipment, materials, and job-site specific gear.

The Area HSE Manager determines safety needs and corrects unsafe employee activities, procedures and practices, ensures that all required records and reports are complete, accurate and correctly submitted to comply with all internal processes and comply with all local, state and federal regulations and customer requirements.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations with special emphasis on FRA and OSHA requirements, as well as customer requirements

• Trains and coaches hourly labor, foremen, supervisors and local managers in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for toxins, equipment, and other materials

• Inspects the jobsite to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determining corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented

• Leads investigations of near misses and incidents and cooperates in the preparation of materials and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations

• Submits incident reports complying with all local, state, and federal regulations, customer and corporate requirements

• Oversees administration related to the company’s Workers’ Compensation program on the specific project

• Maintains safety files and records

• Provides informational signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions

• Assists the Regional Safety Director and Corporate Safety Director as requested with the corporate safety management system.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 2 to 4 years work experience in a heavy labor environment necessary

• MUST have Construction Industry experience

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to write reports

• Strong computer skills are mandatory, significant experience and abilities with Microsoft Office Suite are necessary

• Experience with OSHA reporting necessary

• Must have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written

• Strong interpersonal skills are necessary; ability to interact and with all levels of the company in field sites, corporate, and customers.

• Must possess the character and unquestionable integrity to represent the Company and provide credibility for all work, reports and analysis that is provided through the safety department

• Must have the ability to grasp facts, processes, procedures in a changing environment very quickly, a quick learner

• Works in a proactive manner, a self-starter who approaches his/her work with a sense of urgency

• Ability to meet deadlines under pressure in short time frames

• Ability to multi-task and thrive in an environment where numerous tasks and projects are occurring simultaneously.

• Must possess a valid Driver License.

• Must be physically able to wear respiratory protection, climb ladders, work in tunnels, work at heights, work outdoors in both hot and cold conditions and walk remote jobsites.

• Must be able to obtain TWIC Card for access to ports as well as pass other security screenings as determined by our clients.

• May require occasional standing, walking, lifting, stooping, or bending
