Required qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, business, operations, or related area of study; or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience

  • 10 years’ work experience leading operations or similar areas for a Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM), specialty pharmacy, health plan managed care organization, or relevant industry

  • 5-7 years’ of leadership / people management experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite of products

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including team leadership, conflict resolution, and collaboration

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated success of presenting operational and project updates to the senior executive team

  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpretative, and time management skills

  • Willing to travel up to 25% of time for business purposes

Job description:

The Senior Director Specialty Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the development, enhancement, and ongoing oversight of all Specialty Pharmacy Operations. This position has leadership responsibility for the design, development, implementation, and execution of systems, programs, and processes driving and supporting the Company’s overall business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage overall business performance, quality, process compliance, problem resolution, team, and personnel development responsible for prescription processing, clinical/patient management, medication fulfillment, project management, member outreach, care management, and other operations as assigned.

  • Manage all key specialty operational systems – benefits verification, referral and order entry, pharmacy and medical coverage eligibility, prior authorizations, dispensing and shipping, purchasing and inventory control, and specialty therapy management

  • Direct the development and implementation of operations information systems, intellectual property regarding operating systems and processes, clinical services and patient care support to achieve optimal patient outcomes and drive physician loyalty and pharmacy decision support; refine operational reporting, tracking, and response systems to ensure a zero defect operation

  • Collaborate with key business partners on department and company enhancements

  • Implement enterprise-wide processes and procedures and ensure these process/procedures are being consistently applied

  • Responsible for meeting the following goals: direct and indirect labor cost, employee attrition, absenteeism, pharmacist-to-tech ratios, turnaround time, interruption in service, and performance guarantees

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure contractual obligations and performance is maintained

  • Other responsibilities as judgment or necessity dictate

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, oversight and implementation of departmental budget

  • Responsible for leading a team through teaching, coaching and inspiring by fostering a sense of energy, ownership and a responsibility for the flawless execution of operational excellence; engage in the selection and hiring process as needed
