Works under the leadership of the Manager of the Sleep Center with the help of the EEG technical Team leader in accordance with established procedures. Records routine and bedside EEGs, Ambulatory EEGs and Video EEGs. Rec. In addition, reviews patient’s medical charts, explains procedures to patients, and/or families in order to allay anxieties and elicit cooperation, positions patients for testing, and operates equipment. Performs associated clerical work as required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs digital standard and complex EEG in the office or bedside as ordered, including ECS (brain death) recordings.

  • Meets expected standardized competencies for Visual Evoked Potentials and EEGs.

  • Operates END equipment in order to obtain and record brain wave characteristics or nervous system responses. Adjusts, monitors, and records frequency filter and sensitivity levels to elicit optimal visualization of neurophysiologic activity. Document events to help identify artifact of technical and patient origin.

  • Prepares test results for interpretation by physicians by recording necessary patient information on graphs, noting electrode placement, unusual occurrences and making calculations as required.

  • Provides neurodiagnostic testing to pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Refers difficult and non-routine equipment problems to senior department personnel.

  • Cleans and performs minor calibration and maintenance on equipment.

  • Performs routine clerical duties.

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited EEG technology program or an associate degree in a related field.

  • BLS certification

  • National Registry in EEG through ABRET must be complete within 18 months of hire and must be fully eligible for board registry.

  • Must meet expected competencies for EEG and Evoked Potential.

  • 6 months of direct patient care in the medical field.
