As a Payroll Tax Analyst reporting to the Manager of Payroll, you will be responsible for providing analytical and customer service support for various payroll initiatives. The Payroll Tax Analyst oversees and administers the payroll tax, wage payments, and garnishment activities for the company. The person filling this role must be knowledgeable in federal and state employment tax regulations, tax reporting requirements, garnishments and wage and hour compliance. You will be eligible for a hybrid schedule with Monday through Wednesday in Kinder Morgan’s downtown Houston office and Thursday and Friday being remote-work days. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the administration of Kinder Morgan’s payroll tax processing, wage payments, and garnishments process.

  • Perform routine data audits to help ensure accurate withholdings of federal, state and local payroll taxes.

  • Constantly work with payroll software system for maintenance and updating tax rates to ensure employee/employer data is properly set up.

  • Balance and upload periodic tax, wage payment, and garnishment files to third party vendor for submission and remittance

  • Oversee incoming agency inquiries via mail or email, and assist in resolutions.

  • Provide excellent customer service to our employees, human resource representatives and managers by responding to employee tax, wage payments, and garnishment questions vial email and returning employee phone calls in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate year end activities as well as reconcile, approve, and submit all W-2 related data to third party vendor at year-end for each legal entity.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure all required payroll tax deposits and returns are filed accurately, timely, and in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Job level and compensation commensurate with experience.

    Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline and 5 years of experience in multi-state payroll tax processing.

  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to identify and resolve complex issues

  • Attention to detail and strong problem solving skills, including logical thought processes, with ability to resolve complex issues

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service

  • Ability to oversee projects and processes with many elements from beginning to end

  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively in a clear concise manner with internal and external customers, managers and leadership, vendors, consultants, legal

  • Possess authentic listening skills

  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for the purpose of developing and analyzing data on spreadsheets and data retrieval

  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint,

  • Self-motivated with the ability to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, meet multiple deadlines and work with limited direct supervision

  • Ability to organize, schedule and prioritize departmental and individual work to meet various schedules and objectives, reprioritize on short notice

  • Ability to work with all levels of internal and external personnel, and maintain strict confidentiality

  • Ability to identify, and regularly meet, expectations in an employee/employer relationship

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job

  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Functional experience in ADP Smart Compliance

  • Experience with Lawson Payroll Module
