Job Description

Senior Accountant I, Finance – Cork

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, cancer and inflammation, and serious respiratory and cardiovascular conditions.

The Position

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Accountant role to be based at our location in Cork, working within a specialist controllership function overseeing the Intercontinental (ICR) region (LATAM, Middle East, Russia, Asia) and also supporting the ACE region (Australia, Europe and Canada). This position will report to the ICR Regional Controller and will work closely with the Associate Director, ICR Controllership based in Cork. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting key aspects of the monthly and quarterly reporting of Gilead’s International Commercial operations to the Corporate Head office in Foster City, California as well as a range of other related controllership activities related to both the ICR and ACE regions.

Job duties include:

  • Preparing monthly/quarterly management reporting as required by regional controllership teams.

  • Supporting all Controllership team members with reporting requirements and responsibilities.

  • Preparing key slides for the ICR & ACE close deck submitted to Corporate and working with FP&A to ensure consistent and accurate reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis

  • Preparing quarterly reporting as required under ASC 606 Revenue Recognition Standard

  • Attending month-end flux review calls, seeking clarification from Country Finance teams on any unexpected variances or unusual accounting treatments; ensuring open issues are addressed.

  • Supporting local finance teams across the ICR region, providing appropriate US GAAP accounting, policy and control guidance as needed.

  • Attend specific country balance sheet reviews and follows up on action items of Country Finance and FSS teams.

  • Works on ad hoc projects to enhance policy, strengthen controls and build efficient processes for reporting.

  • Sharing best practice across Controllership and identifying areas of continuous improvement.

  • Involvement in any other Controllership activities across the international organization as required.

  • Frequent interaction with peers, outside customers and functional group members at various management levels.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • Big 4 trained

  • ACA or equivalent qualification

  • Post Qualification Experience in finance/accounting roles.

  • BA or BSc degree (or international equivalent) in accounting or equivalent

  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry a plus

  • Experience with/in multi-national organization

  • Working knowledge of general accounting policies and procedures and US GAAP required

  • Knowledge of SAP/Oracle or equivalent ERP system preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required

  • Strong presentation and communication skills are required

  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven and multi-tasking environment

  • Self-starter with excellent level of accountability
